Increasing engagement
The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham worked with Uscreates to improve staff collaboration and customer engagement as part of Design Council’s Public Services by Design (PSbD) programme. The council’s involvement was stepped up throughout the project, building capacity and creating a legacy and the project has already achieved a 5% increase in resident satisfaction in the area. Other aspects of it are currently being evaluated by B&D and the Design Council.
“Working with Uscreates as part of the Public Services by Design Programme had a really positive impact on our organisation. Even the initially sceptical were excited by their involvement. We have achieved a transferable model for co-designing services that isn’t constrained by traditional limitations. "

Our project used film as a tool to explore, engage and capture the lives of residents as they took us on tours of their area. This approach was also used with council staff who told us about their job roles and work in the area.
Council staff and residents generated ideas to tackle challenges in council services at co-design sessions, and Uscreates mentored the council to develop a selection of these ideas.
We also worked with the engagement team to develop a ‘conversation for improvement’ model consisting of a guide and resources to replicate our engagement techniques to improve public services and communities.
