Bring Your Parent to Work
The Uscreates Bring Your Parent to Work (BYPW) scheme, which brings parents in to the office to share skills and knowledge, has been launched as an internal pilot. The idea for the scheme was born of an awareness that our parents may want to employ some of their accumulated expertise on a project that interests them. Likewise, we may be able to help them by offering an insight into our work or ideas for their own enterprises.
We were fortunate to welcome Graham Head, our research lead Rosie’s father, into the office for a morning of workshops and activities with the team for the first of a series of pilots. He is involved in the Slow Food and so shared with us some of his expert knowledge about sustainable food production and consumption, a very topical subject and one it was fascinating to hear about.
We are looking forward to the next BYPW day which will see Louise Padgett, our new team member Hannah’s mother, welcomed into the office to share some of her learning as a Core Process Psychotherapist. This may prove to be particularly relevant to our work on an ethical toolkit for designers, and ways for field researchers to protect themselves from stress or trauma when dealing with upsetting or ethically complex issues.
Watch this space for more news on the scheme as it develops, and get in touch if you have any suggestions or want to know more details.
