We’d like to congratulate Mary Rose Cook, Uscreates founder and co-director, who has recently been awarded a PhD.
Her thesis, titled ‘The emergence and practice of co-design as a method for social sustainability under New Labour’, looks at how co-design has been used in a wide range of design specialisms, such as ‘service design’ and social design’, to tackle some of the UK’s most difficult social challenges.
She also examined how the use of co-design emerged during New Labour, promoted by organisations such as NESTA and the Design Council, and how it faces a different future under the current Coalition government.
