The regeneration of the Lewisham Borough has included a new Healthy Lifestyle Centre in the deprived area of Downham.  At the time of construction, Lewisham Council wanted to create a personality for the unnamed building and embed it within the community.

Uscreates worked with a range of community groups including a primary school group, an elderly group and a youth club.  We ran creative consultations using our Investigative Toolkit, which explored the themes of healthy living, life-long learning and community to inspire names for the imposing building.

The project culminated in the Downham Celebrates Day, which allowed the wider community to vote for their favourite name for the building, find out more information about the new centre, and view an exhibition of the work created during the project.

Outcomes

A range of community groups consulted.

Over 100 potential names for the building devised.

An exhibition was created to present the visual work produced during the consultations.

An estimated 500 people attended Downham Celebrates Day.

Over 100 people voted on their favourite name for the centre.
